"And I think that’s part of the obsession, is being able to contain it. Because if obsession is not contained, then it becomes erratic, scattered, negative, the positive energy can flip into the negative. I know all too well, ‘cause I spent a lot of time there. "

Creative Obsession: The Balance of Dark and Light is a micro exploration into the life and work of Ron Pippin who for the last 30 years has made it his one goal to create.

In early April of 2006, I presented boards that became the basis for the SciFi network package redesign. At that time I was appointed to Creative Director of the project in which I worked with teams internationally and internally to produce a list of deliverables that would give the SciFi network a new and fresh look for the upcoming Fall season.

Following up the successful rebrand of SciFi in 2006, I was approached the next year to create this package. I designed and directed the live action spots while overseeing a talented team at Diesel FX which handled the 3D and compositing. The bumpers are designed to be a moment in time - a reminder that anything can happen in this whimsical world.

Gris Grimly is a "children's illustrator for adults" and has become known as a prominent artist gaining notoriety with every book he unleashes on the general public. Always wanting to embrace the horror genre, he has recently moved into directing and producing films. It was at a gallery show of Gris's work that we met and realized we both shared an eye for the dark shadows that hide behind an obscured lens. After collaborating on a production logo for Mad Creator Studios I created an animated stop motion piece of the logo. The logo short explores the idea of the studio delivering in a new medium to the public while revealing the new new logo at the same time.

The theme for the second annual Twenty 120 festival, curated by Connor Swegle, was Truth Vs Deception. Keeping in line with the spirit of Twenty120, a select group of twenty directors were invited to create films, interpreting the theme as they choose. The films first screened in New York in Mid-June at Promax/BDA in New York with a Los Angeles Screening on July 17.
