"Faces" was conceived while wanting to shoot some camera tests with the Red Scarlet-W. I found these 4 plaster heads in a dumpster, while working on a true crime show, and decided they would be a great opportunity to work with lighting, technical explorations and improve my cinematography skills. I was drawn to the various textures and degradation each had and saw them as a evolution of self and the constant removal of layers to find one's self. After having just received the camera, I was wanting to explore Mikael Lubtchansky's Foolcontrol to control the camera as well as get better with the Kessler Cinedrive and Second Shooter for motion control movements. Kessler gear has always been a staple in the arsenal and used on almost every shoot I work on. Canon lenses where used in the end as I had access to those and provided a great image with the Scarlet-W - everything was shot over the course of a few hours one night. I spent a few weeks looking for audio before reaching out to a friend who after seeing the stills from the footage recommended I take a listen to the work of Roly Porter. I was blown away by his work and found a small section from the track "Birth" that I thought would be great to edit to. From there I jumped into Premiere with the track between other work/life commitments and after having made my selects went through and cut it all together. Color and graphics were done in After Effects with color correction by Lutify.me luts, lens distortions by Lens Distortions, and pixel sorting by AE Pixel Sorter. Overall - a great experience learning the camera and playing with the footage and look forward to the next side project.
